The Tennessee Titans won their home opener against the Baltimore Ravens 26-13. The Titans were looking to pick up a win after a 16-14 close loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Titans offense, led by Quarterback (QB) Matt Hassleback and Runningback (RB) Chris Johnson, looked strong against a Ravens defense that held the Pittsburgh Steelers to seven points and 346 yards total offense. QB Hassleback threw for 358 yards and a touchdown. RB Chris Johnson had 24 rushes for 53 yards after only rushing for 24 yards on 9 rushes against the Jaguars in week one.

In a Facebook-powered world of convenience and instant gratification, Aspen’s recent failure seems especially frustrating to many students, teachers, and parents.  “It’s annoying because my parents bug me all the time about my grades, and I don’t know what they are,” vented a student.  She estimated that she spends an hour a day on Facebook.

Ravens defense shuts down Steelers in win (Salman Hashmi)

The  Baltimore Ravens packed with new additions dominated the Steelers with a 35-7 win. Quarterback Joe Flacco won his first meeting in seven tries against Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. The last time these two teams met was in the divisional round last year when the Ravens ruined a 21-7 lead at halftime. The Ravens wanted redemption from the last meeting and got it as they forced seven turnovers.

State pride spurs team pride (Kyle Simpson)

It is rare for people to get excited about a football team just for their jerseys. However, this appears to be the case with the University of Maryland Terps. Tuesday night, they sported one of their 48 different jersey combinations, made by Under Armour for their opening game against Miami. When they first came out to the field, the social networks flooded with comments about the jerseys. The captains choose which combination to wear before each game. This particular set had the yellow half of the Maryland flag on one side and the red half on the other of both the jerseys and the helmets. Other designs include a solid black helmet with a solid red jersey and a helmet that resembles camouflage, except it is made up of turtle shells, and a white jersey with a more traditional jersey look with nothing too flashy.

Irene turns off the lights (Meghan Coble)

A great cheer resounded through Howard County when all public schools were closed Monday, August 29th due to Hurricane Irene. Although unfortunately for some, school was back in session the subsequent day as Centennial regained its electricity. A handful of Howard County schools such as Atholton High received an extended vacation as power had not been restored in their area, much to the jealousy of CHS students. Well, most students. Even though school has reclaimed its voltage, many Centennial students have not.
