CHS “It’s Academic” Victory (Meghan Coble)

Centennial competed against Loch Raven and McDonogh high schools in the “It’s Academic” quizbowl at WJZ TV-13 Studios on February 11, 2012. CHS reigned victorious with an overwhelming 545 points compared to Loch Raven and McDonogh who scored 340 and 320 points respectively. Junior Matt Keimig, senior Miles Young, and sophomore Nancy Zhang comprised the Centennial team along with alternates sophomore Qian Mei and junior Clarissa Santori. Coach Dr. Eric Seifter, Principal Dr. Carl Perkins, and the CHS cheerleaders also attended the match.

The “It’s Academic” episode featuring the Centennial team will air on March 17, 2012 at 10 AM. The next televised taping will be a playoff match on April 14, 2012 and air in mid to late May.

This is the most recent win for the CHS “It’s Ac” team who has enjoyed a long season of success this year, placing fourth out of 24 teams in the History Bowl Tournament, sixth out of 32 teams at St. Anselms Novice Tournament, and third at the Arundel High School tournament. Additionally, the team will compete in the National Championship of History Bowl in Crystal City, Virginia at the end of April.

The Centennial quiz club consists of over 35 members who meet weekly for three hours to test the reflexes of both the mind and body.
